Citing an Essay Using MLA

It is very discouraging to see your points taken off from an essay when you have not properly followed the specified instructions. When you are assigned an essay to write what you must make sure of firstly is to determine which writing format is demanded by your professor and format an essay accordingly. If you fail to do so you can easily end up getting low points. In this article you will learn to cite a book using Modern Language Association format. Read some simple steps below to learn to cite a books using MLA format.

Step 1
Find a book to cite an essay from and open the first page as it consists of the essential information needed. It consists of title information of the book in abbreviated form whereas MLA requires the full title name.

Step 2
Provide the city where the book has been published and the name of the publisher. Usually this information is not found on the first page but on the second or third page.

Step 3
Provide the date when it was published. You may find this information in the initial few pages.

Step 4
Provide editor’s name and the name of the author of the article you intend to cite.

Step 5
Now you have all the information all you need is to put it all in order. For instance in MLA format you write in the following order: Author (Last name, first name) title of the article you intend to cite, book title, name of the editor, city, name of the publisher, year, and page numbers.

Remember to use quotations for the title of the article and underline the title of the book.
Use double spacing while citing and indent every line.
